CNA/GNA Scholarship & Employment Program
The American Muslim Senior Society (AMSS), a nonprofit organization founded in 2017, is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of older adults and underserved communities in Montgomery County through culturally sensitive programs. One of AMSS’s flagship initiatives is the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)/Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) Scholarship and Employment Program, which provides low-income residents from diverse backgrounds with education, training, and certification in the healthcare field. Through partnerships with home health agencies, graduates gain direct employment opportunities, helping to address community workforce needs while creating sustainable career paths
The CNA/GNA Employment Program is transforming lives by opening doors to meaningful careers in healthcare. Since 2019, this initiative has provided education, training, and employment opportunities for community members—equipping them with the skills and certifications needed to become Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Geriatric Nursing Assistants (GNAs).
Through the generous sponsorship of the community leaders since 2019, Primary Care Coalition and WorkSource Montgomery since 2022, the program has expanded its reach, empowering graduates from underserved and diverse communities to enter the healthcare workforce with confidence and purpose. Many program participants secure employment immediately after graduation through our partnerships with trusted home-health agencies.
Recently, at our “Empowering Our Healthcare Heroes” Achievement Recognition and Networking Event, we celebrated the dedication of 117 CNA, GNA, and CMT graduates from the classes of 2022, 2023, and 2024—recognizing their vital role in meeting our community’s growing healthcare needs.
