MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS PROGRAM
AMSS Partnership with UMB
AMSS and Partners Launch Groundbreaking National Mental Health Training for Imams, Community Leaders and Service Providers.
The American Muslim Senior Society (AMSS), in partnership with the American Muslim Health Professionals (AMHP), the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) GGEAR Program, and the Muslim Community Center (MCC), proudly launched the nation’s first Culturally Competent Mental Health Train-the-Trainer Toolkit for Imams, Community Leaders, and Service Providers, developed by Dr. Linda Humaidan (AMSS/AMHP Consultant on the Project).
On July 26, 2026, 42 participants, including Imams, community leaders, and Service Providers, completed the Mental Health training, equipping them with culturally responsive tools to support mental health within Muslim communities. Developed as a national best-practice model, this groundbreaking initiative is expected to expand across the United States, strengthening faith-based mental health leadership.
Honoring Faith While Providing Care: Advancing Culturally Competent Mental Health Training
The American Muslim Senior Society (AMSS), in partnership with the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) GGEAR Program, completed a pioneering pilot program to advance culturally competent, faith-informed healthcare for older Muslim adults.
The initiative concluded with the “Honoring Faith While Providing Care” training, bringing together healthcare students, faith leaders, and community members. The event was attended by Montgomery County Council President Kate Stewart and recognized in her official Council newsletter.
This partnership reflects AMSS’s commitment to advancing health equity through culturally responsive education and community collaboration.
